In this video I talk more about Breathing Meditation practice and I give more guidance.
The breath is a good focus for our practice for a few reasons:
- it’s always with us.
- it connects the mind to the body.
- it’s a barometer for our emotions
- it doesn’t have a lot of emotional significance
On distractions: when thoughts come and go we have to remind ourselves that they aren’t good or bad. Thoughts are like clouds, they just come and go. A common misconception is that if we can’t stop our thinking, then we aren’t really meditating. That is not true. The goal isn’t to stop thinking, it’s to be mindful and aware. So, we may have to drag our minds back to focusing on the breath many many times and that is okay.
The most important thing is to not judge or beat ourselves up, to just keep at it.
